What happens

A bright ring of sunlight around the dark disc of the Moon during an annular solar eclipse

In a solar eclipse the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, and its shadow falls on part of Earth, so it is only visible from that region. Never look at the Sun without certified eye protection.
