How to read the map
The circle is your horizon and its centre the point straight overhead. North is at the top and east on the left: hold the map above your head with the top towards north and it matches the sky. Stars are drawn to magnitude 6.5, about the faintest a dark country sky shows to the naked eye.

Frequently asked questions
What does the map show?
The stars, the constellation lines and names, and optionally the planets and the Moon, for the place and moment you choose.
Can I print it large?
Yes. The map is drawn as a vector image, so it stays sharp at any size.
Is it accurate for a date in the past?
Yes. Star positions are worked out with precession for the date, so a map of a birthday or anniversary shows the sky as it was.
